BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Former NFL safety Darren Sharper has reached a tentative settlement with three women who accused him of drugging and sexually assaulting them in 2014.

Lawyers in the case told Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge Helen Zukin on Thursday that the case was resolved, averting a pending trial scheduled regarding the claims of one of the plaintiffs. No terms were divulged.

"The proposed settlement agreement is pending the signatures of all parties and their respective counsel," the judge's clerk wrote in a minute order.

In November 2016, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael E. Pastor sentenced Sharper to 20 years in prison for his actions involving two women, including one of the three plaintiffs. The judge also ordered Sharper to register as a sex offender for life and to submit to HIV/AIDS testing.

The 46-year-old former NFL player was given credit for 2,017 days already served. His sentence is running concurrently with a roughly 18-year prison term he is already serving for similar crimes in Louisiana, along with prison sentences handed down in Nevada and Arizona.

The three plaintiffs sued Sharper in December 2015.

On Jan. 14, 2014, Sharper met two of the women at a West Hollywood nightclub and sexually assaulted them after giving them controlled substances, the suit stated. The next night in Las Vegas, Sharper also drugged and sexually abused the third plaintiff, according to the lawsuit.

At the time, two of the plaintiffs lived in Hawaii and the third in Massachusetts.

A member of the league's 2000s All-Decade Team and a five-time Pro Bowl selection, Sharper was suspended from his job as an analyst with NFL Network following his initial arrest.

Sharper played for the Green Bay Packers in 1997-2004, the Minnesota Vikings in 2005-2008 and the New Orleans Saints in 2009-2010. He was on the Saints team that won Super Bowl XLIV in February 2010.
